Our Home in Sikkim
Khangchendzonga Buddhist University is located in Pangthang, East Sikkim, within the grounds of the historic Taktse Estate. The site looks out towards Khangchendzonga (གངས་ཅན་མཆོག, Gangs chen mchog), the sacred mountain revered as guardian and teacher across Sikkim and the Himalayas.
For the Lepcha people, the indigenous community of Sikkim, the mountain is known as Kongchen Konglo “the big stone.” In Bhutia and Tibetan tradition, it is celebrated as a deity embodying balance, humility, and protection. Its presence reminds us that education must remain rooted in place, even as it opens to the wider world.
Campus in Progress
Our campus is being developed with a commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and reflection. Facilities will grow in phases, guided by three principles:
Inspired by local building traditions, blending functionality with harmony in nature.
Classrooms and open courtyards that embody samaya (sacred bond), nurturing community and learning together.
Connecting learners in Sikkim to educators and peers worldwide.
