Principles of Leadership

Our model of university leadership is guided not only by statutory law, but also by Himalayan values of prajñā (wisdom), karuṇā (compassion), and samaya (sacred bond of trust). These guide every decision, ensuring leadership is both accountable and humane.

Integrity

Transparent and accountable processes.

Inclusivity

Representation of diverse voices in councils and committees.

Sustainability

Protecting the interests of future generations.

Wisdom & Compassion

Leadership rooted in reflection and service.

University Authorities

The KBU Rules & Regulations define a clear structure of leadership and oversight:

Board of Governors

Chho-gyal Guthi

The apex authority of the University, providing overall direction, policy approval, and safeguarding the mission.

Gyana Sabha

Academic Council

The principal academic body, ensuring quality of teaching, research, and standards.

Board of Management

Parichalan Mandal

The principal executive authority, overseeing daily academic and administrative operations

Lobsang Sabha

Lobsang Tshokpa

A supportive body of patrons, donors, and mentors, advising on sustainability and goodwill.

Board of Overseers

Nyos Guthi

An independent oversight body that ensures accountability and transparency are maintained.

During this founding phase, KBU is being guided by a team appointed by the Denjong Charities Trust, until these statutory authorities are fully established. As a new university, KBU is starting small and intentional. Our leadership and structures are designed to ensure that even in this early phase, every decision is guided by fairness, accountability, and care for students.
For families, this means confidence that their children are joining an institution with strong roots supported by the Denjong Charities Trust and inspired by the proven success of Taktse International School.
As KBU grows, these structures will evolve with it, providing the stability, transparency, and vision needed to support every learner’s journey. Our aim is to create a leadership model that is reflective, inclusive, and globally connected  while staying true to the cultural diversity of Sikkim.

Aranck Veer Kunzang’s connection to education is rooted in growing up within the Taktse ecosystem, first as a student and later as the School Librarian. These experiences have given him a clear sense of how supportive environments shape learning, a perspective he carries into his expanding responsibilities. In the library, he works closely with students and teachers, managing resources and maintaining a space the school relies on daily. His understanding of school life comes from lived experience—knowing what it feels like to navigate learning systems as a young person—and he uses that insight to support others with empathy and practicality.

Kitsho Wangchuk’s understanding of education has been shaped by living and learning across Bhutan, India, and Japan. These experiences helped her appreciate how communities define learning differently and how important it is to design programs that fit those contexts. A graduate of Waseda University, she has worked across nonprofits, education projects, and the film sector, gradually orienting her work toward thoughtful, community-informed program design. As a researcher with a Bhutan-based nonprofit, Kitsho works on designing and evaluating education initiatives, developing student workshops, and supporting short-term learning pathways. She approaches her work with patience, preferring to understand a community’s needs before drawing conclusions. Over time, she has become interested in how organizations make decisions about learning and how research, data, and lived experience can help those decisions become more grounded.
